THE FAITH OF BHAI NIRMAL SINGH
I thought we should take time to remember a great Gurmukh who put UK youth seva on the map.
Bhai Nirmal Singhs (UK) life and passing were equally inspiring. Bhai sahib was a parchaarik (preacher) who dedicated his life to seva (service) of the panth by traveling the country and spreading the Sikhi message. This was done in camps and universities spanning a 20 year period. He inspired countless people into Sikhi. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer and when the doctor told him the news, he laughed and said "is that all you wanted to tell me?"
He was placed in the terminal cancer ward and was due to remain there till he passed away. One morning Bhai Sahib said he wants to come homeon the coming Thursday. His family asked why? You are supposed to stay here now. He said "Guru Sahib's Shaheed Singhs (pure liberated souls) have come to me and said they are taking me away on this date and I should be ready".
The family asked what they look like. Bhai sahib said they have blue bana (gursikh attire), big dumalay (turbans), chakkars and glowing faces.
Bhai sahib came home Thursday and an evening house Kirtan darbar was arranged. Gursikhs did Rehras sahib and started Kirtan. The Kirtan went on for 6 hours and was followed by Amritvela and Nitnem.
As the last lines of Anand Sahib were read,
(Binvant Nanak gur Charan laage, vaje anhad toore), bhai sahibs face lit up. He looked up with his hands together; he had a beaming smile and said 'Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh'
Time is running out... Become Guru vale before it's too late. Only through Gurus bakshish (blessings) can we get honour when we leave, otherwise what else is there??
