FANTASTIC TRANSFORMATIONS!

My journey into Sikhi!

Started just over a year ago when I met my Husband. I was living in a share house and he had moved into the room next door. For the first two months we didn't really speak to each other.

We both were busy in our own lives. Every morning he would make tea for everyone that was home. I would usually decline but he would make me one anyway. (It was great tea). One Day I asked him why did he make tea for everyone. He said that in Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught that if you are making something you share with those around you. That kind of kindness intreged me. From that morning we would sit and have tea together and talk.

He would tell me about Sikhism and I would tell him about Christianity. About a month after we started talking we both had realised that we liked each other. He had told me that he couldn't start a relationship without first asking his parents also without marriage. These morals and standards were what I was looking for in a Husband. When he told me he had asked his parents I was very happy.

His parents agreed with us getting married. We were married in November, 2016 first the Australian way which was a very small ceremony with a celebrant. Four days later we had our Anand Karaj. My husband would sit and do meditation and paath. He taught me and we would sit together and meditate and do paath together. When ever I cook we always play shabad live from the Golden Temple which I dream to visit soon.

When he took me to the gurudwara for the first time we went to the shop close by and he brought me my first Kara. With help from My husband and also learning from the web site Sikhnet I found that Sikhism and Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings were what I was looking for. My beliefs were that there was only one God (ik onkar) and he had sent down many messengers to teach his wisdom. Guru Nanak Dev Ji teaches us that we are all equal. There is no one better and no one lesser.

He says we should perform Selfless service (seva). And its the lovely people in Khalsa Aid that shows us how beautiful selfless service is. They teach us that anyone who needs help should be helped no matter what or where that person comes from. We are just one race, human. There are two movies that moves me to tears literally every time I watch them (which is often as they are my favorite movies) is Chaar Sahibzaade and Chaar Sahibzaadetwo: Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur.

February 2017 I asked my husband if I could take Amrit. He agreed I was ready and we decided to take Amrit together. I still have a lot to learn. Well we all do. To be Sikh means we are all learners. We will continue to learn till the end.

Guru Ramdas Ji Says, “Guramatee So Jan Tarai Jo Dhaasan Dhaas”Following the Guru's Teachings, the humble servants are carried across; they become the slaves of the Lord's slaves.
