Sikhi Game of love- FARMERS OF PUNJAB AND OTHER STATES IN INDIA

FARMERS OF PUNJAB AND OTHER STATES IN INDIA

Please share this very important message, images and video in the bio with as many people as possible around the world. Let’s support those earning a truthful and honest living! It’s the largest peaceful protest ever in world history!

This is not about caste, colour, creed or religion. It’s about protecting the universal virtue of honesty and righteousness, which is everyone’s responsibility.

Dear Citizens of India,

If you had a meal today, thank a farmer!
During the pandemic and lockdown, these farmers kept working to keep you and your children fed.
Your education and health care has been privatised. Do you enjoy paying so much more for it?
Do you want your food privatised so that the same Indian oligarchs make even more money?

Your media will brainwash you and tell you that those marching to Delhi are separatists. The media will not tell you that a farmer gets paid seven rupees for crop, which the rich industrialist sell to you in the cities of India for 150 rupees. Now they force the farmer to accept even less. Ask yourself, is this ethical?
How many more farmer suicides do you need in India?

The police and army are inciting them with barbed wire, tear gas and water canons for protesting peacefully, which is everyone’s constitutional right. In return the farmers are feeding the police with langar (a free hot meal) of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

If you are a proud Indian and you appreciate the meal on your table;
If you want good quality food for your children, then support the farmers marching to Delhi and support a sustainable farming industry. The oligarchs have enough wealth accumulated from their greed.
In fact, if you want quality food for your children, then it should not just be farmers marching to Delhi, every citizen of India should be marching with them.
We ask you to support the hardworking farmer like they supported you in this pandemic.

Every country looks after its farmers, so why aren’t India looking after there’s?

Our elderly, at the ages of 80 - 95 years old, should not be sleeping outside in winter nights during a pandemic.
They should not be attacked by police with tear gas, water cannons and barbed wire. They do this in our names. They get told they are allowed to protest but then are attacked and blocked. How does this make sense to a cause they are allowed to protest?

Punjab and other farming states are being forced by Indian oligarchs like Ambani to privatise the food supply as they have already taken over healthcare, education, airports, rails and roads.
This affects the root of what Punjab is about.

Baba Banda Singh Bahadhur freed our lands from Thakurs, large landowners. This made the Punjabi free to sow his own land not a slave on someone else’s land.

Today Modi’s BJP is trying to make Punjabi farmers slaves to corporates and Punjabis are resisting. We all need to support them!
The Indian media is being used to demonise the farmers. Media networks from around the world should be positively supporting the peaceful cause too. let’s put forward our narrative. The middle classes of india need to understand why the farmers are protesting.
We do not want our elders of punjab sitting in the cold for months during a covid pandemic.
We want a resolution by the BJP government withdrawing these laws and nobody hurt through it!
Please all, Support the farmers!

Sikhi Game of love- WARRIORS

WARRIORS

Many people (especially youngsters!) are attracted by the warrior heritage of the Sikhs and make special efforts to preserve that image through dressing up in the traditional warrior’s attire.

This theme of the warrior tradition has existed since the very beginning in Sikhi, but not in the way that most people understand it nowadays.

The first battle for us to engage in as Sikhs is the battle that rages within all of us. This is the war that we have to fight with our easily influenced and constantly wonderig minds.

Gurbani (Guru’s word) is full with the imagery of battles and wars that is used to describe the internal struggles that we all have, in order to overcome the five vices of lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego.

The true warrior in Sikhi terms is the one that conquers his/her mind. To achieve this victory, we have to get up daily and prepare for this battle. The daily meditation practice is our main weapon that we use to rid the mind of all its evil.

Guru Amar Das Jee blesses us with the following verse in this respect.

Jo Jan Loojhehi Manai Sio Sae Soorae Paradhhaanaa ||

Those humble beings who struggle with their minds are brave and distinguished heroes.

Har Saethee Sadhaa Mil Rehae Jinee Aap Pashhaanaa ||

Those who realize their own selves, remain forever united with the Lord.

Giaaneeaa Kaa Eihu Mehath Hai Man Maahi Samaanaa ||

This is the glory of the spiritual teachers, that they remain absorbed in their mind.

Har Jeeo Kaa Mehal Paaeiaa Sach Laae Dhhiaanaa ||

They attain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, and focus their meditation on the True God.

Jin Gur Parasaadhee Man Jeethiaa Jag Thinehi Jithaanaa ||8||

Those who conquer their own minds, by Guru's Grace, conquer the world. ||8||

Sikhi Game of love- Who is Guru?

Who is Guru?

Gu- Dark Ru- light : From dark to light; The dispeller of darkness.

Guru is also a sanskrit word, meaning a guide or a teacher

Gurbani refers to the ‘Guru’ many a time. Guru Ji themselves, refer to ‘Guru’ in Gurbani, with reference to the ‘True Guru’ and ‘Guru’s Grace.’

A few examples go as follows:

Guru Nanak Dev Ji says,

Gurparsadhee Paiaa ||

By ‘Guru’s Grace’ I have found him (Vaheguroo).

Guru Arjan Dev Ji says,

Man Gur Mil Kaaj Savaare ||1|| Rahaao ||

Meeting with ‘The Guru,’ your affairs shall be resolved.

Guru Tegbahadur Ji says,

Baahar Bheethar Eko Jaanahu Eho Gur Gyaan Bathaaee ||

Inside and outside know that there is only the One Lord; the ‘Guru’ has imparted this wisdom to me.

Who is the True Guru? How do we engage with Guru Ji?

When Guru Gobind Singh Ji was asked by Bhai Nand Laal Ji about the different forms of ‘Guru,’ he confirmed that Guru ji has 3 forms. This is recorded by Bhai Nand Laal Ji in Rehatnaama.

Guru Ji has 3 different forms:

1. Nirgun- Formless. Guru ji is described as a formless being with no physical essence to them. Guru Ji is everywhere, an energy and a power listening to all our prayers. We are referring to Vaheguroo themselves. The Guru and the One Lord God are the same.

* Gur Mera Paarbrahm Gur Bhagvanth- My Guru is the Supreme Lord God; the Guru is the Lord God.

1. Shabad Guru- Spiritual enlightener. Gurbani is the Guru. Guru Granth Sahib Ji is our Guru. Through the teachings of our Guru we are enlightened, and can find our way back to Vaheguroo; just like a droplet of water merges back in with the sea.

* ‘Bani Guru Guru Hai Bani Vich Bani Amrit Sare’ - The Bani is the Guru and the Guru is the Bani, whoever follows this Gurbani, the Guru will be their as their support always.

* Guru Arjan Dev Ji says, Dhur Kee Baanee Ayee - The Bani of his word emanated from the Primal Lord. Thin Saglee Chinth Mitaee- it eradicates all anxiety.

This Bani is the sermon of God himself!

1.  Sargun- physical form of Guru Ji. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first Guru and their jyot (light) passed through all 10 Gurus, with Guru Gobind Singh Ji being the 10th Guru. This is the physical form of the Guru. Guru Gobind Singh Ji then goes on to say that his Khalsa is also his form. We are now his sargun ‘physical’ body. He resides in his Khalsa.

* Guru Gobind Ji says, Khalsa Mero Roop Hai Khaas -The Khalsa is my special form. Khalse Mai Hau Karo Nivaas- In the Khalsa I live.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji said that his Khalsa is the one that has given their mind and body to their Guru; the one that follows the code of conduct given to us by our Guru; the one that keeps truth alive and never swerves from God, and in their heart the light of God forever shines.

Sikhi Game of love- HOLY DAY

HOLY DAY

Most of the faith traditions of the world, observe special, holy or auspicious days. The most well known of these is the concept of the Sabbath in the Abrahamic faiths. The Sabbath is  a day that is specifically for worship.

We also have other examples such as days of fasting or indeed the holy month of fasting in the case of Islam.

The Sikh philosophy takes a slightly different approach to this concept. Essentially, the Sikh Gurus and other contributors to the Sikh scriptures, have instead aligned themselves to a principle of the personal state of mind of an individual, defining whether a day is holy or special.

The Sikh’s daily spiritual practice is what defines our special day. The teaching of the Sikh Gurus is that every day, that we successfully engage in Naam Meditation, that day is the most holy and special. That second, minute, hour, that we engage in the Naam, is our holiest day.

We do not need to wait for a certain time/day/month to engage in spirituality. Instead, we need to proactively work to make every single moment of our time, on this earth the most special and holy existence. This will only happen when the Naam meditation gets to a stage that it permanently resounds within the mind. One will know themselves when they have reached this development, as at this point, they will feel at peace and very high spirited at all times.

Whilst there are many teachings to be found on this principle, Guru Amar Dass Jee, the 3rd Guru, offers us the following verse.

Vaelaa Vakhath Sabh Suhaaeiaa ||
That time, that moment is totally beautiful,

Jith Sachaa Maerae Man Bhaaeiaa ||
When the True One becomes pleasing to my mind.

Sachae Saeviai Sach Vaddiaaee Gur Kirapaa Thae Sach Paavaniaa ||2||
Serving the True One, true greatness is obtained. By Guru's Grace, the True One is obtained. ||2||

Sikhi Game of love- WHAT HAPPENS IF WE FALL?

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE FALL?

Guru Gobind Singh ji says that the first Rehat (discipline) of a Sikh is to take Khanda Amrit from the panj;
Pratham Rahit Yeh Jaan Khande ki Pahul Chakkey
Soee Singh Pardhaan Avar Naa Pahul Jo Lai.
The Primary Rehat for a Sikh is to take Khande-ki Pahul,
Those beings are great who renounce all other nectars.

This is our first and essential step into Sikhi, as we have given our sees (head) to our Guru. You’ve come under the total allegiance of the Guru and the Guru is your father from then onwards. Most people make their aim to take Amrit and that’s just it.

It’s like an admission into a school. Your journey never stops there. You face many hurdles along the way, in order to achieve what one must to prosper in the world. Similarly, a Sikh of the Guru faces many challenges in their daily lives. You’re constantly fighting a battle within, within the mind; constantly battling with the five thieves (lust, anger, greed, attachment, ego), aalas (laziness), nindiya (slander/judgement of others). Each one of these can bring us down at anytime. We each have a jyot (light) within us, which is lighted by Akaal Purkh (God) themselves. Each time we give in to these bad habits, the light dims. We don’t want that light to disappear. It’s the connection between us and Akaal Purkh. Without that connection you suffer in pain, confusion and duality.

The battle isn’t easy. Nobody said it would be easy. Yes, through meditation on God’s name, you are able to control them but we’re all humans and are always vulnerable to each and every one of them.

So what do you do? You fall and you rise. Again and again! It’s an ongoing circle. You are only in danger if you stop trying in your Sikhi to rectify your actions. For example, I know if I was to miss amritvela by chance, I would constantly dwell on it for days and days thinking how could I let that happen, and it would seriously bring me down.

But, one thing I’ve learnt along the way is, that dwelling on what you’ve done, gets you absolutely nowhere. It just robs you of your peace. It’s very important to have fear of Guru Sahib Ji. Fear and love go together,  because you fear to lose or hurt the person that you love right? But, if that’s the case, move on and start again. Fresh day, fresh start. I’m not saying if mistakes happen it’s okay. Yes, you have to acknowledge them and rectify them. But, don’t put yourself down so much, that you just give up and your mind just constantly ticks around that event.

Go to your Guru. You accepted Guru as your father. Speak to your Guru. He’s ang Sang (with us) at all times. Ask for his forgiveness.
Bhulan Andhar Sab Ko Abhul Guru Kartaar.
Everyone makes mistakes, only the Guru and the Creator are infallible.

The Chaali Mukte (40 Liberated Ones) wrote a letter to Guru Sahib saying we are not your Sikhs and you are not our Guru. Imagine how much pain that must have caused Guru Sahib. But, when they came back to Guru Sahib, fought in the Battle of Muktsar and gave shaheedi (martyrdom), Guru Sahib tore up that document. That’s the love that Guru Sahib has for his Sikhs.

Never leave your Guru, always come back to him and he’ll accept you with arms wide open, because if you love Guru, he gives you that love back ten fold more. It’s very important to uphold Guru’s discipline. Do not take it lightly! We’ve been given this discipline in order for us to fight this battle everyday. But if one is to fall in the process, always always come back to Guru’s sanctuary; do your ardaas and speak to Guru Sahib in person.

Guru Ramdaas Ji says,
Satgur Ki Sarnaee Bhaj Pao Mere Mana Gur Satgur Peechai Shhutiai
Quickly, run to the Sanctuary of the True Guru, Oh my mind, following the True Guru, you shall be saved.

Sikhi Game of love- A Mother’s sacrifice for Sikhi In the early 18th century...

A Mother’s sacrifice for Sikhi
In the early 18th century...

Atrocities against the Sikhs was at its peak, and was maximised by the Governor of Lahore Mir Mannu. However, the more and more challenges the Sikhs were facing, the stronger the Khalsa was becoming. It gave them the inner strength and passion to stick together and fight against injustice. Despite Mannu's extreme torture and rule of terror, nothing could hinder the Sikhs.

Mir Mannu sent his army to go from house to house searching for Sikhs. Many of the Sikhs took shelter in jungles, but other Sikhs with families couldn’t just abandon everything and move away. They were captured by the army and all were being sent to Lahore. Most of the prisoners were Sikh women and children. Many of these women were old and frail, and were killed along the way because they couldn’t walk such a long distance. All Sikh women and their children were put in a Lahore jail. For labour they were given chakki (traditional mill stones used to grind corn into flour). They were given no food or water and they were separated from their children, who were also given no food or water. This was done, in order for those sikh women to give in and disown Sikhi.

Everyday, these women would get taunted. People would constantly come upto them and say “Where is your Khalsa now? They cannot rescue you now because all of them have been killed by the Mughal army. So it’s best for you to accept Islam and live a better life.” But, these women never gave up, they didn’t leave their Sikhi. They kept reciting ‘Vaheguroo, Vaheguroo, Vaheguroo.’
The Mughals then started killing the innocent children by throwing them up in the air and landing them on sharp spears. Some children were cut into pieces and garlands were made out of their pieces. The garlands of those innocent souls were put around the necks of those poor mothers. But still these women didn’t waver and stayed strong to their faith.

One of the women was very beautiful and the Qazi (A judge in the Muslim community) wanted to marry her. He came everyday to try and convince her to accept him. But she didn’t, so he had the army men torture her two year old son. They cut him into pieces. This Singhni kept calm and kept saying, “I can give my life but I’ll never give up my Sikhi.” She was then beaten with whips and lost consciousness. In the morning, she lay there by a wall and did her Nitnem and in her ardaas, it has been accounted that she said, “Guru Sahib, within your bhaanaa, my night has passed peacefully. I am thankful to you for taking your possession (her son) back into your sanctuary. May I continue to walk your path and stay within your will. Guru Saab, my breath may leave my body, but I will never give up my Sikhi. Vaheguroo!

Hearing this some of the guards were shocked and wondering what Sikhs were made up of. Some of the guards left their jobs by saying, “These Sikhs are the people of God. We cannot torture these innocent souls. Even their women and children are so strong and brave. They will rule Punjab one day.” The extremists were enraged by this and tortured her again. Heavy weight was put on her body and her bones were crushed. They hit her with sticks. After so much torture, she became Shaheed (martyred) but she never gave up her faith. She just kept chanting ‘Vaheguroo.’ When Singhs heard the news of the tortures, they attacked Lahore and freed all the prisoners and punished the sinners.

Mir Mannu also died. He left for hunting one day. While he was hunting, his horse was scared and ran very fast and jumped so high that Mir Mannu couldn’t control it. He fell off and his feet got entangled in the stirrup. The horse was dragging Mir Mannu. He was badly injured and died in the forest.

These women were so brave; They sacrificed their children for their utmost pyaar (love) for Sikhi. Amazing! That is how much respect the puraatan Singhs and Singhnia had for Guru Sahib and Sikhi. They could sacrifice their all for the panth but they would never waver off the path of the Guru. Respect to those Gursikhs who gave up their lives for Sikhi to be alive today, otherwise we wouldn’t be here today.

But what have we learnt from this? What have we given to the panth? Infact, we can’t even give five minutes of our time to sit down and do simran (remember God in meditation), which is a shame or even thank Guru Sahib for the things he’s blessed us with. Guru Sahib doesn’t ask too much from us. All he asks from us is to live a truthful living and keep our conscience in God’s feet.

We’re all going to return home one day; no one is immortal. This world is false, none of your possessions will go with you after you die. Not even your children. Is it possible for you to even forget your Mother or your Father? Think about it… it’s not! So why do we forget that the one that created us is our Mother and our Father. We can never forget this! The time spent in contemplation on Akaal Purkh (God) and your actions are all that are going to count when you leave this world. Otherwise, it’s like being dead whilst alive. The Kamaee you do during your lifetime is what makes up the numbers of your life. We don’t want a big fat zero against our account.

Let’s make the most of our time. Don’t just take our word for it. Look into your own history. Look into how beautiful Sikhi really is. Let’s read and try understanding Gurbani. Take small steps. Finally, to all the mothers, you are your child’s first Guru (teacher). If you implant the right values, that’s the only way the panth will continue to flourish. Teach them about their history, the shaheediyan of the ‪Chaar Sahibzaade‬ (4 sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji). Guide them towards connecting with their roots. You are the ones that lay the first foundation for that child.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji Says,
“So kyo mandha aakeeai, jith jamai raajaan
So why call her bad? From her, kings are born.
Bhando hi bhand oopjai bhando baaj no koe”
From woman, woman is born; without her, there would be no one at all.

Sikhi Game of love- PILLARS

PILLARS

Ask any structural engineer and they will tell you of the importance of their role. If they get the design wrong on a building or bridge it could cause the structure to come crashing down.

They do detailed calculations to establish what sorts of pillars and other supports will be required to keep a building standing.

Similarly, people also sometimes needs support to deal with the tough times that we all occasionally face in our lives, such as a health issue, or financial hardships etc.

Importantly, our minds also need support. Without any support our minds can also face destruction by getting influenced by all the things that go on around us in the material world.

The only support for the mind is the Gurshabad (word of the Guru) and Gurmantar (Guru’s Mantra). Both of these give the mind the strength to deal with all the false worldly distractions and remain unaffected.

As gursikhs it is incumbent upon us to ensure that we engage in the practise of Naam meditation and the reciting of Gurbani to keep our mind supported, grounded and positively energised at all times.

Guru Arjan Dev jee blesses us with the following example in Sukhmani Sahib.

Jio Mandhar Ko Thhaamai Thhanman ||
As a palace is supported by its pillars,

Thio Gur Kaa Sabadh Manehi Asathhanman ||
So does the Guru's Word support the mind.

Sikhi Game of love- GURU HARKRISHAN SAHIB JI AND THE BOY THAT COULDN’T SPEAK

GURU HARKRISHAN SAHIB JI AND THE BOY THAT COULDN’T SPEAK

Guru Harkrishan Ji was the youngest Guru to be given Guruship at the mere age of 5 and he showed everyone that he truly was the Guru. He showed the power of divine knowledge and the healer of people.

In another village, there was a Brahman (Hindu Priest), who used to teach people the Gita. The Gita is written in Sanskrit; many people dedicate their whole lives trying to understand the Gita. When the Hindu priest heard of Guru Harkrishan Ji, he thought to himself that only Lord Krishna can go by the name Krishna. He was outraged and was wondering who this little boy is, who goes by the name HarKrishan and why people go so far as to call him Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji.

So, he went to pay a visit to Guru Harkrishan Ji. When he met the Guru, he was very disrespectful and he challenged the Guru. He said to Guru Ji, “You must think you’re much greater than Lord Krishna? Why don't you tell me the meaning of the Gita and explain it!" Guru Sahib was Jaani jaan (All knowing). He knew that this pandit is full of Hankaar (ego). He is very far from the path of meeting God. Guru Ji had read the mind of the Brahman and replied by saying, "You think I am too young to gain divine knowledge? You will say that I must have learnt the meanings from someone else. This won’t restore any faith in you. Go outside and find anyone and bring them to me. They will explain the Gita for us."

The Brahman decided to find a poor person named Chaju, who was deaf and dumb, as well as uneducated. The Brahman chose the most difficult parts of the Gita for Chaju to explain. Guru Sahib said to Chaju, “Chaju, you will now attain all the knowledge needed, in order to respond to all the questions of this scholar.” Then, the Guru took his chadee (stick) and touched Chaju's head with it. Chaju began to speak, and he explained the Salok (passage), in such a clear way. The translation was one that the pandit had never  heard such words before. He was astonished at the fact that Chaju explained it so well. He picked out another very difficult passage. Once again, Chaju explained the passage beautifully.
The Brahman couldn't believe what he was hearing. He just heard explanations of the Gita that he hadn't ever heard before. The pandit’s pride was finally overshadowed by humility. He said to the Guru, "Forgive me, I thought you were just a little boy who didn't know anything. I am full of pride and have realised you are the jyot (light) of God. God speaks through you. I am a mere child before you."

Guru Ji blessed him to become a Sikh and he began to experience the things he only used to read about. He began to live a virtuous life.

This saakhi (story) shows us that God is within everything and everyone. Vaheguroo can make people work in mysterious ways, even through children. Even though Guru Sahib was only five years old, he was so immersed in the love of God, that he made a dumb person speak. Everything happens within Guru Ji’s hukam (command). Guru Sahib Ji is capable of doing anything they want. Guru Nanak Dev Ji explains in the pauree of Japji Sahib Ji as follows:

‘Hukmee hovan aakaar hukam na kahiaa jaee
By His Command, bodies are created; His Command cannot be described.

Hukmee hovan jeea hukam milai vadiaaee.
By His Command, souls come into being; by His Command, glory and greatness are obtained.

Hukmee utam neech hukam likh dukh sukh paaeeaih
By His Command, some are high and some are low; by His Written Command, pain and pleasure are obtained.

Iknaa hukmee bakhsees ik hukmee sadaa bhavaaeeaih
Some, by His Command, are blessed and forgiven; others, by His Command, wander aimlessly forever.

Hukmai andar sabh ko baahar hukam na koe
Everyone is subject to His Command; no one is beyond His Command.

Naanak hukmai jay bujhai ta haumai kahai na koe. ||2||
O Nanak, one who understands His Command, does not speak in ego. ||2||

Sikhi Game of love- LEAKING POTS

LEAKING POTS

Birthdays are the one celebration that is common across virtually the entire human race.

However, a Gurmukh once asked me to look at it from another perspective. He asked why are we celebrating the lessening the of our lives? We are observing that another year of our life has passed by.

The 9th Master, Guru Teg Bahadur Jee, has touched on this theme of human life, slipping away like the water that slowly leaks out of a cracked clay pot. All the while, we remain unaware of our true purpose; our opportunity to merge with the oneness.

But the most important teaching that Guru Sahib Ji blesses us with here is the fact that it is never too late to connect with the Naam meditation and achieve liberation within this life.

Gurbani is full of examples and messages to this effect. There are even many examples,  specifically of the worst sinners, being liberated by even just repeating the God’s Name once from deep within the heart.

Guru Teg Bahadur Jee blesses us with the following lines in this respect.

Chaethanaa Hai Tho Chaeth Lai Nis Dhin Mai Praanee ||
If you are conscious, then be conscious of Him night and day, O mortal.

Shhin Shhin Aoudhh Bihaath Hai Foottai Ghatt Jio Paanee ||1|| Rehaao ||
Each and every moment, your life is passing away, like water from a cracked pitcher. ||1||Pause||

Har Gun Kaahi N Gaavehee Moorakh Agiaanaa ||
Why do you not sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, you ignorant fool?

Jhoothai Laalach Laag Kai Nehi Maran Pashhaanaa ||1||
You are attached to false greed, and you do not even consider death. ||1||

Ajehoo Kashh Bigariou Nehee Jo Prabh Gun Gaavai ||
Even now, no harm has been done, if you will only sing God's Praises.

Kahu Naanak Thih Bhajan Thae Nirabhai Padh Paavai ||2||1||
Says Nanak, by meditating and vibrating upon Him, you shall obtain the state of fearlessness. ||2||1||

Sikhi Game of love- LOCKDOWN…

LOCKDOWN...

There will be a national lockdown starting from 5th November in the UK!

As a Sikh and a human, what are our duties to ensure everyone is okay physically and mentally?

It is very important in the coming months, that we all take as many precautions as possible. It’s important that we try not get close to too many people with flu like symptoms, as the last thing we want to do is spread it to anyone or our loved ones. It’s the time of year where many are affected by illness. Precaution from any illness should be kept in exactly the same way as precaution should be kept for covid. Hygiene in general is a must at all times, just as our Guru’s have always taught us.

Many people die from flu, mental health illnesses, pneumonia, smoking and drinking annually. As humans, we need to take precaution at all times and not only in this pandemic.

9,500 children just in the UK, are admitted to hospital from secondhand smoking and many thousands die from it annually.
480,000 people die from smoking in the US and 41,000 deaths from secondhand smoking annually.
78,000 people die from smoking in the UK annually with many thousands of lives being affected by illness in general.
95,000 people die annually from alcohol related causes in the US, yet cigarettes and alcohol are not being prohibited.

Around 17,000 people die from flu every year in the UK. 30,000 are dying from pneumonia.
There are 8 million deaths from mental illnesses each year, globally, which should be concerning us massively in this unprecedented time. 800,000 people are dying from suicide affected by depression annually.

These are very concerning facts!

A lot of the Covid spread is coming through schools and universities, yet they are to remain open in lockdown. This defies all logic!

In this extremely testing time, we need to be spreading positivity, love, care, compassion and kindness. We should try and avoid watching the news and accessing Covid related social media platforms, as this will only cause the mind to become very weak and negative. There’s a huge difference between making someone aware of an illness and absolutely terrifying them daily, weekly or constantly. This will only lead to stress, depression and anxiety.

Let’s try our hardest to do all we can as humans. Let’s support those that need help, support and guidance. Take time to call/face time your loved ones, your neighbours, the elderly around you. Laugh as much as you can and let’s enjoy our time with our families. These times may never come back again in our lives. We need to be very strong and positive through them, not just for our family and our loved ones but for everyone we can reach out to. As a Sikh, let’s make it our duty to spread that love to all.

There is a lot of scaremongering going on! Most people who are getting symptoms are getting them very mildly or maybe getting no symptoms at all. If anyone is being affected, it’s more those with serious heath issues or the very elderly. The sad reality is, these people would get affected by any illness and any virus. Of course, we have to avoid any-type of virus spread and prevent our vulnerable being affected, but let’s not get too extreme and caught up about it all and lets definitely not let it affect ours or others  mental health.

At some point, we have to sit back and have faith in the higher power and think that what will be, will be in the will of God.

Life and death comes to all of us. We will all go at some point. Let’s go by helping someone. Let’s go by being a shoulder for someone. Let’s go by being strong for someone. Let’s go by giving to someone and let’s go by supporting the world through positive, spiritual wisdom, because at this moment in time, it’s the largest service that is needed from every human.

Be precautious but don’t be scared! Be positive and don’t be negative! Don’t let this weak mind make our mental and physical state weaker and for us to be attacked and affected by viruses and illnesses.

We are all here to spread love, compassion and wisdom to the world. Let’s do it together and let’s watch us all be healed as one universal creation of God (Vaheguroo).

Let’s keep our minds positive and occupied through meditation on God’s name and by practicing God’s virtues!
Positive energy is a saviour! Let’s spread it!

Guru Amardas Ji Says,

“Dhookh rog santhhaap uthrai sunnee sachee Baani.”
Pain, illness and suffering has departed listening to the pure, positive and spiritual wisdom of the Guru (God).

Guru Arjan Dev Ji Says,

“Janam janam ke dookh nivaarai sookhaa man saadhaarai
He dispels the pains of countless incarnations and lends support to the dry shrivelled mind.

Darshan peatath hoth nihaalaa har ka Naam beechaarai
Beholding the blessed vision of his Darshan, one is enraptured contemplating the Name of God.

Meraa baidh Guru Govinda
My true doctor and physician is the Guru and the lord of the universe.

He places the medicine of Naam meditation in to my mouth and cuts away the noose of death.

He is the all powerful, perfect God; the architect of Destiny; He Himself is the sort of good deeds.

Vaheguroo himself saves his slave; Nanak himself takes the support of Naam meditation.”

Sikhi Game of love- PUT TO THE TEST

PUT TO THE TEST

A Gursikh who reads Gurbani everyday in the form of Nitnem (their daily routine), is examined by the Great Guru to see whether the Guru’s spiritual wisdom is applied within their practical life. Following and applying Guru’s teachings, one is declared to be doing well in their spiritual journey, and on the contrary if we only read but don’t live according to Gurbaani, we are declared as hypocrites by our own subconscious mind. Therefore, it is important to follow the Guru’s teachings and avoid deeds prohibited by Gurbani. Guru Jee says “He who in his thoughts, words and actions, contemplates the One God; that man obtains all the fruits.” A Gursikh who meditates with thought must also meditate with their actions; this way, he/she is to pass the loving test of Guru Ji and is blessed with every pleasure. Guru Arjan Dev Ji Says, “kirpa prabh aapnee har aap parkhay.” God grants His Grace, and the Lord Himself tests them.

Sikhi Game of love- NO CASTE

NO CASTE

The Sikh Guru’s rejected the whole concept of caste, that still exists to this day in modern Indian culture. However, it is unfortunate that the Sikh community has allowed this disease of social status/class to slowly creep in. These differences, based on family lineage or occupations are driven by purely material concerns. In the modern world at large, some people are obsessed with ranking people based on net worth. This is such a meaningless and misguided exercise. Those that are absorbed in the Naam meditation, know no such differences and classifications of people. They see the same essence in all creation. The only hierarchy they know is based on what extent a person has discovered the love of God’s name and creation, that resides within them. The actions of a person in their time on this earth are ultimately a more accurate measure of their status, than any monetary or hereditary factors. The Guru’s wisdom presents us with countless verses of teachings on this topic. Jaath Janam Neh Pooshheeai Sach Ghar Laehu Bathaae || If God exists within in all then we do not need to ask about social class or birth. If you must, then ask which house (body) has the lord revealed himself. Saa Jaath Saa Path Hai Jaehae Karam Kamaae || Your deeds and actions are your social class and that is your status Janam Maran Dhukh Kaatteeai Naanak Shhoottas Naae ||4||10|| The pains of death and rebirth are eradicated; O Nanak, salvation is in the Lord's Name. ||4||10||

Sikhi Game of love- THE POLICE OFFICER

THE POLICE OFFICER

If you look at a police officer carefully, you will realise that he looks distinct compared to ordinary people. Even though he is a public servant, he is full of confidence and smartness; and, fearlessness and determination is reflected from everything they say. The police officer acts totally fearlessly, as he/she knows that they have the power of the police department and the government behind them. He/she does not consider themselves alone and they carry out their day to day duties full of confidence. Just as the police officers consider the power of the police department and the government behind them, in the same way, the Khalsa of Guru Nanak Dev jee, Guru Gobind Singh jee, also know that the vibrant and all-powerful force of Vaheguroo is behind them at all times. The Gursikh carries out their duties in this world, without any fear, with great confidence and with total honesty. He/she knows that Vaheguroo is always with them and that they are never alone. He/she also knows that Vaheguroo and their Khalsa always win and can never lose any physical or mental battle. Vaheguroo and Vaheguroo's Khalsa attain victory in everything they do. They have faith in God, they stay calm, they are fearless and do not worry about any power the world brings to them. God is the embodiment of victory, his Khalsa too is the embodiment of victory. The khalsa is always victorious! The Khalsa is the servant of Vaheguroo! Guru Granth Sahib Ji Says below: Vaheguroo’s bhagat always stays in bliss. Vaheguroo’s bhagat has no problems. Vaheguroo’s bhagat has no fear. Vaheguroo’s bhagat always attains victory.

Sikhi Game of love- LIKE BEES TO HONEY

LIKE BEES TO HONEY

Bee colonies are highly organised organic systems. Every bee works for the good of the wider group; there is no selfish agenda! They are all connected through a singular focus and they all answer to one leader, the Queen Bee. The beehive produces the sweet tasting honey that sustains them all and they all taste and enjoy it together and all the time. This very specific example is used repeatedly in Gurbani, as an analogy for the spiritual beings, who gather in the holy congregation. Just like the bees, these liberated souls have one focus, the Naam, and one spiritual leader Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee. They enjoy the sweet essence of the Naam meditation in unison within the sangat. They show no enmity and have no judgement towards anyone and only see a pure holy congregation that they feel a strong connection to at all times. Lets all strive to create perfect spiritual colonies across the entire world, and spread the message of love through meditating on Vaheguroo’s name. Sathasangath Mil Reheeai Maadhho Jaisae Madhhup Makheeraa ||2|| O Lord, I seek to live permanently in the Company of the Saints, like the bee stays in its honeycomb. ||2|| Vaheguroo!

Sikhi Game of love- TRUE FRIENDS

TRUE FRIENDS

We often talk about the positive impact someone has made on our lives. This could be the story of a sporting legend, that made us want to train harder, or it could be a business leader that inspires us to take our career to the next level. Equally, this could just be your friend providing some much needed motivation in your life. Too often, the inspiration that we get and indeed seek, only benefits us on a purely worldly or material level. Many spiritual souls have such a radiance and presence, that they can leave one moved just by glancing at them; such is the strength and power of Naam meditation The materialistic mind can be freed of its many worldly entanglements, through meeting and befriending a spiritual/enlightened soul, that can provide guidance, wisdom and inspiration. But, those true gems are rare amongst people. Last autumn, a western spiritual teacher, presented to a full house at the Royal Albert Hall in London. People from all over the UK attended with the view to gaining some valuable insights for their spiritual journey. Let’s all try to find and search out our true friends in this life, so we can fulfil the souls journey. Jinhaa Dhisandharriaa Dhuramath Vannjai Mithr Asaaddarrae Saeee || The sight of them banishes my evil-mindedness; they are my only true friends. Ho Dtoodtaedhee Jag Sabaaeiaa Jan Naanak Viralae Kaeee ||2|| I have searched the whole world; O servant Nanak, how rare are such persons! ||2|| Vaheguroo!

Sikhi Game of love- HORSE TRADERS

HORSE TRADERS

When Guru Nanak Dev Jee was asked to join a group of Muslim worshippers in prayer, he gladly agreed. However, when the people were praying and bowing according to the Muslim tradition, Guru Jee did not actually join in. When asked, why they had not joined in, Guru Jee basically explained how all they had seen were people going through the physical motions of prayer. Guru Jee then singled out the individual, who had challenged them and told him, that although he was praying, his mind was absorbed in his worldly affairs and business and it was busy selling horses. This is such a simple and obvious example but in reality, we are all victims of the over active mind. The mind can travel faster than anything else in the universe. It also takes into the past and then in the next instant, in to the future. Who is the driver of the Mind? If we stop to reflect for a moment, we will see that all these thought patterns are driven by the Ego at the centre and the four other negative aspects (lust, anger, greed and attachment) follow closely behind. It is important when we read Gurbani or meditate on the Naam, that we totally surrender ourselves. This is the only way, the Mind and it’s driver, Ego can be kept subdued. Otherwise, we all become the horse traders that Guru Sahib Ji witnessed. bharame bhoolaa dheh dhis dhaavai || Deluded by doubt, their minds wander around in the ten directions. nimakh maeh chaar ku(n)T fir aavai || In an instant, their minds go to the four corners of the world and come back again. kar kirapaa jis apanee bhagat dhei || Those whom the Lord mercifully blesses with His devotional worship naanak te jan naam milei || - O Nanak, they are absorbed into the Naam. Vaheguroo!

Sikhi Game of love- KEERTAN SOHILA

KEERTAN SOHILA

Keertan Sohila is a night time Bani, which is read before going to sleep. It’s made up of five small prayers and takes no longer than five minutes to complete with love. ‘Sohila’ means a song of joyful praise. The Bani is about the end of life and union of the soul with God, hence Sohila Sahib is recited at the time of cremation. Reciting it everyday, reminds us that the end of life is imminent and we are not to waste this precious time. It is a motivation for shedding all worries and having a peaceful sleep. A small Ardaas should be done after this to firstly thank Vaheguroo (God) for another day to ask for protection from wrong thoughts in our sleep and assistance in waking up for Amritvela the next day. It also reminds us to keep the Naam meditation (praise of God) within our mind and heart as we sleep. Guru Nanak Dev Ji Says, “Thith ghar gaavho Sohilaa sivriaho sirjanhaaro.” -in that house, sing Songs of Praise; meditate and remember the Creator Lord. Vaheguroo!

Sikhi Game of love- REHRAAS SAHIB Ji

REHRAAS SAHIB Ji

Sikhi, The Game of Love!

Rehraas Sahib is an evening prayer, usually recited after a long day at work, when one is very tired and has mentally and physically had a draining day. Rehraas sahib Ji boosts ones spiritual and physical energy and gives thanks to God for another successful and high spirited day. Rehraas Sahib Ji motivates one to continue their praising of Vaheguroo through meditation for the remainder of the day. The word ‘Rehraas’ means life’s occupation. The Bani reminds us that although we have to work and earn money in order to feed our family, our true occupation is the praise and meditation of Vaheguroo’s (God’s) Name. Often at work, the workload can get quite high and intense and our mind can tend to wander off in to the distractions of the world. Rehraas sahib allows one to control this mind and bring our thoughts back to the One and neutralise the mind. This allows us to become happy, peaceful, blissful and content. Guru Ramdas Ji Says In Rehraas Sahib Ji, “Gurmat Naam mera praan sakhaaee har keerat hamree rehraas.” Through the Guru's Teachings, the Naam is my breath of life. The Kirtan of the Lord's Praise, is my life's occupation. Vaheguroo!

Sikhi Game of love- ANAND SAHIB Ji

ANAND SAHIB Ji

Anand Sahib is the fifth Bani of a Gursikhs morning Nitnem prayer. Anand means bliss! It is said that the person who recites this Blissful Bani daily, with dedication, attention and comprehension, will achieve Anand (Complete Happiness or Bliss) in life. The Bani, written by Third Guru, Guru Amar Daas Ji, tells us how we can achieve bliss and where to get it from. It tells us to control our senses and concentrate single mindedly on the Shabad (Vaheguroo mantra), which is given to us by Panj Piyaare (five beloved Gursikhs); by doing so, one experiences bliss. The bliss described is very different from the worldly pleasures. It has an ecstatic energy! When one experiences the divine bliss of the Soul, all other joys and tastes are seen as tasteless. The experience does not compare! This Anand stays and does not diminish and it pertains during ups and downs of life. It takes dedication and love, however the results are beyond describable. Anand Sahib is a beautiful Bani and easy to understand. Many Gursikhs also sing Anand Sahib, because the power and love felt is surreal and unearthly. Guru Amardas Ji Says: “Anand Sunho vadbhageeho sagal manorath pooray.” Listen to the song of bliss, O most fortunate ones; all your longings shall be fulfilled. Vaheguroo!
